The spectacular Portimão circuit made its debut on the MotoGP calendar in 2020, marking the return of MotoGP to Portugal for the first time since 2012. In 2021, MotoGP returned to the venue and the event subsequently secured a longer-term place in the championship from 2023 onwards, with ever-growing crowds and increasing international visibility. The 2025 Portuguese Grand Prix welcomed more than 166,000 fans across the weekend, setting a new attendance record for MotoGP at the AIA.
Hosting MotoGP, a truly global sport, also provides an opportunity to raise the profile of the Algarve and Portugal abroad, growing the destination’s visibility amongst audiences in different markets across the world and reinforcing the Algarve’s position as a regular venue for major international sporting events. The MotoGP Grand Prix also has a key positive impact on the region’s tourism sector, boosting demand for accommodation, catering, transport and other services associated with the event.
This year, the Repsol MotoGP Grand Prix of Portugal will take place between 20 and 22 November, bringing the stars of the show back to the rollercoaster as the likes of Championship leader Jorge Martín (Aprilia Racing), seven-time Champion Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) and 2025 Portuguese GP winner Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) touch down at the Algarve International Circuit for another record-breaking event.
